I started Middlewave Books as a way to share many of the stories and songs that I have made up for my daughter Aveline.  Many a sublime summer morning has been spent in the low tides of the Nantucket sound, scouring the beach for heart shaped shells, rescuing hermit crabs, and making up little ditties about all of the critters we see. 

While it began as a way capture the spirit of our morning hunts and silly songs, it's become a creative lifeline to me in mid-life. 

Middlewave is inspired by the idea of the Middle Way in Buddhism- the avoidance of extremes.  My extremes were struggling to find myself after being fully career-focused for most of my adult life, to being a full time stay at home Mom.  I have found my creative spark again by working on these books, and I believe that true peace and creative fulfillment  can be  found in the quotidian- the simple practices of spreading joy, being silly, and spending time with the ones you love.
